The
most important thing you can do for your site is promoting
it by search engine submission. You can pay a fortune
to have someone else say they'll do it for you, or do
it yourself!
Be aware, though, that the rating your page is
given depends upon what it contains in a searcheable
format, mainly as text. In many cases you must
have your Meta-Tags installed on each page to ensure
that the automated programs or "bot's" that
glean information from your pages for the search
engines to index receive the sort of text (words)
that have relevance to the purpose and content
of each page.
This is something that should be done regularly,
at least every few months, to make sure the indexes
have newer information, and to update your site's
placement on results pages. Yahoo is an exception
to this as they actually review your site first!
If you'd like to try a free, more automated process
for 36 basic search engines, got to Add Me to use
their auto submit program. Another excellent example
of brains working overtime is at Olav Helleso-Knutsen's
[Mirror Site!], it is a free script-program that
automatically submits multiple page-links to 20
most popular search sites! There are two different
versions of his free submission script there.
